What an amazing small home it was. Greeted by lovely staff when paying & several informative volunteers whilst walking round at your own pace. The stained glass with the sun shining on it upstairs looked amazing. The nearby church was open too to look round, something we'd wanted to do for years & only a pleasant stroll away.

Beautiful grounds and interesting house, Ellen's paintings of the flowers were my favourite and the great hall was the favourite of my partner! Will definitely come again, seeing the flowers in the grounds in spring was wonderful!

It's only a small National Trust property but we feel blessed to have it only a few minutes down the road. It's ideal for families with small children, especially if they love trying a free balance bike or enjoying a Preloved book from the shop! The paths are all well looked after and it's extra pretty in the spring! The cakes in the cafe are also lovely!

This is a nice National Trust visit. There is plenty of walking to do. The walk up to the church is particularly lovely and well worth it. There are at least three areas to have a picnic, as well as the Tea Room on site. Toilet facilities were clean. It was really family friendly. I went with three children aged between 2 and 11. The house is full of history and all other volunteers were both lovely and knowledgeable.

Ordered a cup of tea and a breakfast bun, which consisted of an egg, one small piece of bacon and sausage which looked like it had been left under the grill from the night before. Couldn't be bothered sending it back, but I did mention it to the nice guy that served me. They need a decent cook there. Also it was 3 degrees outside and there was no heating on in the tea room.

Went to the cafe but was told we had to pay £5 each for the privilege! So didn't stay.

Small but interesting NT property, ideal if your after experiencing a unique piece of history. The house itself is full of character and charm, much like the guides inside! I was surprised to read some reviews complaining that the guides were 'too enthusiastic' etc - they are volunteers without which the NT would not survive so maybe people should give them a bit more respect, they do a great job here and at other properties. Anyway, the house and gardens are great, they have the obligatory cafe/book store/shop etc which you come to expect. Cafe prices are a little on the higher side, but which aren't nowadays, and they were decent drinks & food. Overall Rufford Old Hall is a pleasant day out, maybe not a full day, but enjoyable overall.

Nice looking hall but unable to gain entry as it was out of season. Not much else to look at. Relatively small grounds to walk round. Coffee shop was average. OK for a quick stop but not for a day out.

Busy because of the Santa experience. A huge house with only about 10 rooms you can see. It’s Winter, so the ground wasn’t great, but I can imagine it would be fabulous in Spring or Summer.

This ancient property, though bijou as Halls go, has a stunning Great Hall of circa 1400, with a strong feeling of what it might have been then, still discernable. There, in ancient times, everyone in the household would have come to eat and the bulk of them would have slept there, though there was once a wing attached to the hall where the family would have had private quarters. The rest of the building is of 1700s origin, mostly. It tells the story of the Hesketh family who were connected with the area from the time of the Great Hall.
